Creative Employment Programme

THIS IS IT! was launched in 2013 for the interns, apprentices and trainees of the Creative Employment Programme, an Arts Council scheme that provides paid placements for 16-24s just starting out in the creative industries.

Supported by Arts Council England, and delivered by Creative & Cultural Skills, this £15 million lottery-funded programme will generate up to 6,500 new work opportunities for unemployed 16-24 year olds across England. Arts and cultural employers can apply for funding towards the costs of employing new apprentices and paid interns, and join a network of organisations that will provide traineeship opportunities for 16-18 year olds.

The creative and cultural industries are a success story for the UK. Even during the recession employment has grown at five times the rate of the economy but routes into jobs have traditionally been narrow, and there is a pressing need to attract a wider pool of talent.

The Creative Employment Programme aims to address skills gaps in the creative sector, encourage innovation and collaboration, improve recruitment practice and alleviate current high levels of youth unemployment.
